Welcome to our blog!

We have decided to start this family blog so that we can keep our family and friends updated with news and pictures of our little Kai as he grows. I can’t promise to post weekly or anything, as I’ve quickly discovered just how little time there is in a day when you have a newborn, a career, and a house to still take care of at the end of the day, but I will do my best!!

I’ve had a lot of people ask us where we came up with our son’s name, so I might as well address it here just in case anyone else was wondering! Kai (pronounced ‘Ky’) is Hawaiian, and means the ocean/sea. A friend of mine in college had a son named Kai, and that’s when I first fell in love with it- I thought it was very exotic sounding, and unique. Vinny and I had a tough time agreeing on boy names…I had actually brought the name Kai up several times throughout the pregnancy, but he always vetoed it. But then one day over the summer, I ran across the name Kai again on a baby names list, and for some reason right then and there I just knew it was THE name, so I managed to convince Vinny! Then, once I discovered that it meant the ocean/sea, that really confirmed it- I thought it was really fitting since Vinny and I met on the beach, we got married on the beach, and had done a beach theme for the nursery! Kai’s middle name, Vincenzo (pronounced ‘Vin chen zo’) is the Italian form of Vincent. Vinny had wanted Vincenzo as a first name, but I didn’t want him to end up being a “Vinny Jr.” so we compromised and used it as a middle name. So there you have it!

We cannot believe that our little boy is over 2 months old already!! He is the most AMAZING baby, and we are incredibly blessed. And I’m not just saying that because I’m his Mom LOL He is seriously the most easygoing, happy baby I’ve ever met, and everyone that meets him says the same thing: “He’s such a good baby, you’re so lucky!!” Yes, we definitely are. The only times he cries is when he wants to eat, and when he needs to be changed, and as soon as his needs are met, he’s perfectly content. That crying-for-no-apparent-reason-and-nothing-we-do-helps type of scenario that a lot of new parents experience just doesn’t exist in the Alversa household. Not yet, at least...*Knock on wood* LOL He goes from breast to bottle with no problem, he loves his car seat, he loves the stroller, he loves baths, and he’s a great sleeper. Actually, as of last week he started sleeping through the night!! I promise I’m not bragging. Ok, maybe just a little. ;) When he’s awake, he loves swinging in his swing and sitting in his bouncy chair, looking at things on the ceiling and walls, or just hanging out on the Boppy pillow on the couch or in bed with us. He is smiling like crazy, and has recently started to laugh and babble when we talk or sing to him. The other night all 3 of us were in bed watching Grey’s Anatomy, and he proceeded to talk through the first 10 minutes, so we had to keep raising the volume!! I think he gets that from me ;)

Kai had his 2 month pediatrician appointment 2 weeks ago, and got his first set of shots. He whimpered for a few seconds, and then went about his business, sucking away on his binkie! Such a big boy!! Speaking of big boy... he weighed in at 14 lbs 1 oz, and was 24 ½ inches long, both in the 95th percentile! Not surprising, since he loooves to eat-just like his Mommy & Daddy!

Ok, enough of my babbling-time for pictures of our little man! I have literally taken thousands of pictures of Kai since he was born, so I’ll just post some of my favorites from the past 10 weeks of his life...

We're trying to figure out how to upload videos to the internet from our new camcorder, so once we figure that out, hopefully I'll be able to start posting some videos too!
