Backing up about a month…Kai had his 3 month appointment on February 23- he was 17 lbs 11 oz and 26” long, both above the 97th percentile! He didn’t have an appointment this month, so we weighed and measured him ourselves: 20 lbs and 27 ½" long. That’s the average size of an 8 month old. Eeek! We’re hoping we’re just growing the next Brian Urlacher!
Kai’s little sleeping glitch only lasted about 3 weeks (thank GOD!) and he kindly reverted back to sleeping through the night at the beginning of March. As a bonus, when he wakes up in the morning now, he will just hang out in his crib, laughing and cooing for a good 20 minutes or so. Then once his tummy finally sends a little message to his brain that it’s been empty for 10 straight hours, he lets me know it’s time to get up!!
Kai met his first major milestone on March 9th: rolling over!! He was doing tummy time with Daddy when all of a sudden he rolled to the left, all the way over to his back! Of course I was shrieking and clapping in excitement, and he looked at me like I had 10 heads LOL He proceeded to do it several times after that, but hasn’t done it again since, unfortunately. He’s also trying so hard to roll from his back to his belly, but I’m pretty certain those chubby little legs of his will be his biggest obstacle!
Kai had been eating rice cereal for about a month, so on March 13th we decided to move on to vegetables! His first veggie was carrots, and he absolutely LOVED them!! He was grunting and kicking his legs trying to encourage me to scoop faster haha!! Squash was next, and was also a big hit. We just finished up our 3rd day of sweet potatoes last night, but I have to say he wasn’t as enthusiastic about them. Now don’t get me wrong, he didn’t spare a single spoonful LOL but they definitely weren’t his favorite. We’re on to peas tonight…I can’t wait to see his reaction with those!!
Some other noteworthy updates:
-Kai has been laughing for months, but now he has the most adorable shrieking cackle that practically takes his breath away. We just can’t get enough of it!!
-He’s able to raise himself pretty high up on his arms now. He especially likes it when we put him on his belly on the changing table because he can really see what’s going on around him.
-He loves to hear us talk to each other- even if he’s fussy, he’ll stop to look and listen to our conversation. Then when you catch him listening, he immediately flashes his gorgeous little smile :)
-He is also very nosy, and will turn his head and body as far as he can to check to see what we’re doing if he’s sitting or laying down.
